The Vizio Notebook is the flagship model, packing an NVidia graphics card made to the Kepler specification. The slightly uninspiringly-named Vizio Notebook features a 15.6-inch 1080p display housed in an aluminum unibody chassis.

The Vizio notebook also starts at $898 and provides a 15.6″ Full HD 1080p display, performance-tuned audio with SRS Premium Sound HD, together with a long-lasting battery. With the Vizio Ultrabook offering 14″ HD+ or 15.6″ Full HD display and a razor-thin design made possible by a durable, aluminium unibody case. For more specification on all the new models jump over to the Vizio website.For the storage on the VIZIO Notebook, a hybrid storage option is being used which combines a large one terabyte hard drive with a 32GB for caching. This caching helps make up the performance issues of a slower 5400rpm hard drive for things like booting up the system or launching frequently used programs. The laptop can cold boot into Windows 8 in roughly thirty seconds which is an improvement over standard hard drives but short of what can be achieved with just a solid state drive. If you do happen to need additional storage space, the system features two ports for use with high speed external storage drives. Like Apple's MacBook Pro 15 with Retina, VIZIO has elected not to include an optical drive which means you would need an external drive if you wish to watch movies or load software from the physical media format.Powering the VIZIO Notebook is the standard Intel Core i7-3610QM quad core processor. This is not the fastest of the quad core mobile processor but it provides the system with more than enough power for most users. Combined with the 8GB of DDR3 memory and it is able to handle even demanding tasks such as desktop video editing. The only real downside is that the system is sealed such that the memory cannot be upgraded after purchase.The keyboard and trackpad design on the VIZIO Notebook is essentially identical to its Thin + List. This is disappointing as there is plenty of space on the left and right of the keyboard deck to git a larger overall keyboard. It uses the same traditional design that has little room between keys and has a very flat overall surface. The result is a keyboard that can be very difficult for touch typists to use due to the restricted space and ease with which one can press the wrong key. The trackpad does benefit from a larger surface area than the one on the Thin + Light which thankfully allows for more accurate multitouch gestures but it still has accuracy problems.The display and graphics are the big draw for the VIZIO Notebook. The 15.6-inch display features a nice 1920x1080 native resolution that allows for greater detail. Now this resolution isn't all that uncommon in this size of laptop but it is a very strong feature for something priced at $1200. The screen offers some fast response times thanks to the TN technology panel but it lacks the color and viewing angles of higher priced IPS panels. It still falls well short of what the MacBook Pro 15 with Retina display can achieve but is certainly above average. The graphics are driven by the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE dedicated graphics processor. This is a decent graphics processor that tries to balance power and heat. It offers 3D performance for casual PC gaming but not at the panel's full resolution or with high detail levels. It also offers a broader range of like Photoshop than the integrated graphics options.The Vizio Notebook will sport an i3 CPU with an NVidia GT 640M LE graphics card (28nm Kepler architecture), and 4GB of 1600MHz RAM working in tandem with the expanded 1600MHz of the Ivy Bridge chipset to keep everything running smoothly. The Notebook also kicks off at $900, a pretty good deal for a full HD Ivy Bridger with discrete GPU…though how much deeper your pockets will need to be to get the deluxe upgrade to quad-core i7-3610M, 8GB RAM and 32GB SSD/1TB HDD hybrid we don’t yet know.
